George Mizzell

George Mizzell is a 1979 graduate of UAB Engineering School, specializing in electrical engineering. He spent 15 years as an engineer with Alabama Power, and the past 18 years consulting in areas which include engineering, programming, organizational effectiveness, and marketing functions. George has a strong passion for helping students understand Math and Science, and developed a wide range of Hands-On Science classes which have been enjoyed by thousands of energetic students. He also taught as a volunteer in Vestavia Hills schools for 15 years. George has been tutoring one-on-one and teaching ACT/SAT preparation for two decades, and works with over 1,000 students each year in classes and one-on-one sessions

Patrick Herren

Patrick Herren graduated from Birmingham - Southern College with a Bachelor of Arts in English literature. During his time at BSC, he studied English Literature at St. John’s College at Oxford University in England. He was also a founding editor of the Southern Academic Review, the college’s only student-led academic journal. He taught both English and ACT Prep for many years at a local private high school. Matching his educational and teaching credentials, Patrick is an ACT English & Reading specialist. He is a Certified ACT instructor with 13+ years experience as both an ACT teacher and tutor

Sheryl Turner

Sheryl Turner is passionate about helping students build confidence and achieve success in mathematics. With more than 25 years of experience in education and 15 years of specialized ACT math tutoring, she brings deep subject knowledge and proven teaching strategies to every student she works with. She holds a Master’s degree in Education from Georgia State University and currently teaches mathematics at a local homeschool co-op. To ensure her instruction reflects the most current ACT content and expectations, Sheryl regularly takes the ACT herself, allowing her to stay familiar with the exam’s evolving question styles and concepts. She believes true mathematical understanding comes from seeing how concepts connect rather than simply memorizing formulas. Her goal is to help students develop strong problem-solving skills, gain confidence in their abilities, and reach their maximum potential on the ACT and beyond.
